Business Management

Overview

The Business Management team is the heartbeat of Porter’s Academy’s simulated workplace.

Students run the administrative, financial, and organizational operations of the entire school—learning how real businesses function through authentic, daily responsibility. They manage communications, data tracking, signage, the school library, and event coordination that keep the school running smoothly.

By learning to plan, prioritize, and lead projects, students gain a foundation in financial literacy, professionalism, and leadership.

Daily Activities

Business Management students complete essential daily tasks that directly affect the school’s operations:

  • Update the electronic marquee sign with daily announcements and event reminders.

  • Track finances for the Wildcat Store, concessions, and CTE projects.

  • Prepare and organize materials for meetings and presentations (Board of Education folders, guest name tags, and data packets).

  • Monitor inventory in the library and the teacher supply closet.

  • Create spreadsheets for attendance challenges, work-order tracking, or budget summaries.

  • Support celebrations by printing certificates and posting “Wildcat of the Week,” “Student of the Month,” birthdays, and honor rolls.

  • Collaborate with Graphic Design and Broadcasting to promote events, data updates, and recognitions.

These are real administrative duties—not simulations—which teach accountability, efficiency, and attention to detail.

What Makes It Different

Unlike most middle-school “business” units, this is not a mock company—it is a fully functioning administrative office inside the school.

If Business Management students don’t update the sign, print the certificates, or manage the event, those things simply don’t happen.

They experience firsthand what reliability and leadership look like in a workplace.

Their work ensures that every celebration, announcement, and event at your middle school runs smoothly—proving that middle-school students can truly operate a business.
